Licensed Mental Health Counselor Admits His Lifelong Struggles With Depression And Now Reveals What Most Psychiatrists And Psychologists Don't
Know About Men And Depression...
"I Was Tired Of Feeling Like Crap...My Life Became Totally Meaningless And Empty"
"Dude, It's Time For You To Get The TRUTH About
This Whole Depression Thing And Get The Tools YOU Need To
WIN the War Against Depression!"
Date:
From: Ken Donaldson
Dude,
Eric Hipple was a NFL Quarterback who had the world at his feet.
He never thought he'd be burying his own teenage son.
You see, his son committed suicide.
But most men – like you – don't want to hear about it or talk about it.
"It" is the dreaded "D" word: Depression!
I know, you're a guy, a “real man”, and you don't think you need any help...yeah, you don’t want to look weak or let anyone know what’s really going on.
Back to Eric Hipple. Read this:
"...then Jeff took his own life and Eric's life bottomed out.
He not only wound up in jail, he was glad to be there. His eventual quest to understand his son's death turned into a
journey of self-discovery and healing. Hipple found an explanation for his behavior and his son's: depression."
~A story about former NFL quarterback Eric Hipple, his depression and his son's suicide
You may not have heard of Eric Hipple, but here's a quick review: He was a National Football League (NFL) quarterback who spent ten years with the Detroit Lions. He had two playoff bids,
a divisional championship, and received the NFL most valuable player award.
AND he struggled with depression and his son died because of depression.
That's frickin' depressing!
The good news: As a result of his son's suicide in 2000, Eric is now involved in educating people about the dangers of depression. He travels the country and gives speeches to High Schools, Youth Groups and Corporations on suicide prevention and Mental Illness. He is the current Outreach Coordinator of the Depression Center of the University of Michigan.
He also got help for his depression and openly talks about it.
Eric Hipple is one of my heroes!
Hey! What about you?!! Don't you need help and need it now?
Yeah...I can hear it now:
"I don't need any help...I can handle it."
Really? Then why are you searching for this information on the Internet?
Listen, I know how it is. Yes, I'm a licensed mental health professional, but I'm also a man who's been through the hell of depression many times. I know how your psyche works and I know how you don't want to let others see you as being "weak" or even needing help.
Let's talk more about "real men."
When you think of "Real Men", who comes to mind?
How about Marlon Brando a.k.a. "The Godfather"...is he a Real Man?
Of course, Harrison Ford, a.k.a. Indiana Jones, is definitely a Real Man!
What about Terry Bradshaw, winner of 3 Super Bowls?
Or perhaps one of our greatest statesmen, Abe Lincoln?
Yeah, definitely Real Men!
Here's a few more seriously Real Men who left their mark on the world:
Buzz Aldrin, who was one of the first two people to walk on the moon.
Actor Rod Steiger, from "In the Heat of the Night" fame.
A big music star:Sting.
A baseball legend: Ty Cobb.
And perhaps one of the most popular American icons of all time, Dick Clark.
Here's a few more: Composers and musicians Ludwig van Beethoven, Frederic Chopin, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Billy Joel and Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys; writers Ernest Hemingway, Jack London, Truman Capote, Leo Tolstoy, and F. Scott Fitzgerald; poets Dylan Thomas, Edgar Allan Poe and Walt Whitman; and actors Alan Alda and Jim Carrey.
Guess what they ALL have in common: They all struggled with depression.
Listen up: Nobody wants to admit they're depressed...
none of these men did and you certainly don't either!
How do I know? Because I've battled depression most of my life. I didn't know it for many years, and then didn't want to admit it after I did know it.
Hell, I'm a frickin' therapist...I should know how to handle these things...right??!!
So what happened? My life became a living nightmare!
That is, until I finally admitted it and did something about it.
What about you? Aren't you sick and tired of that empty feeling?
And the negativity that has you blaming everything and everyone else?
Aren't you tired of feeling like crap and never living up to your potential?
Here's the ugly truth: Depression in men is a growing epidemic, but it never gets the attention it deserves.
Why? Because many health professionals like doctors and psychologists actually miss the symptoms of Male Depression and often misdiagnose and mistreat the true problem.
And let me tell you, that really sucks! You finally go for help and they don't even ask the right questions!
But most men don't want to admit it!
Dude, You Might Just Be Depressed And It's Time For Some Happiness In Your Life Again!
Aren't you tired of feeling like crap?
Let me ask you a few questions...
Do you want to lose all that frickin' negative thinking that's always chattering away in your head?
Wouldn't you like to have more energy to enjoy your family, friends and work?
How about this: Want to revive your sex drive and feel more alive?
When's the last time you felt enthusiastic about your work and actually looked forward to it? Interested in changing that?
How'd you like to get rid of that irritable feeling that has you on edge all the time?
What would it be like to wake up feeling refreshed in the morning?
I don't suppose you'd like to lose that short temper...you know, the one that always seems to hurt everyone else's feelings?
Want to stop feeling like a walking zombie and feel alive again?
And what would it be like to actually start sleeping soundly and fully, and be focused throughout the day?
And for a few of you, how about being able to decrease drinking or drugging to self-medicate?
What if I told you I know of over 100 ways to help you feel better starting today? Would you want to know what I'm talking about?
Or maybe you think I'm just being too Pollyannaish?!!
I'm Going To Say It Again: Dude, You Might Just Be Depressed!
Chances are you don't even know what all you're dealing with. Let's face it, depression doesn't get much media coverage and most of us are not very educated about it.
And there's even less awareness about depression in men.
See if you can relate to any of the following...
Through the Darkness, I Do Go...
These days of night overcome my Soul
They are tearing me apart and I am left less than whole
Despondent and broken; I find no hope
I lose my vision and just don't cope
Trudging through these days of night
I can only survive and for that I do fight
I breathe my breath one at a time
Taking small steps to ease my mind
I understand not these days of night
And why they occur and cause such fright...
~Part of a poem written by a depressed man
